Yes. Building on steep terrain—like the hills around Lake Whatcom or Chuckanut—requires advanced structural framing. We are highly experienced in erecting complex shear walls, heavy timber structural supports, and lateral load systems designed to meet rigorous local seismic codes.

For anything exposed to the elements, we prioritize materials that fight rot. We typically use pressure-treated lumber for structural supports and finish with naturally rot-resistant Western Red Cedar or high-quality composite decking that stands up to the constant Pacific Northwest dampness.

It is almost guaranteed to happen in Bellingham! Fortunately, modern framing lumber is designed to handle temporary moisture. The most important step happens after the roof is on: before we enclose the walls with drywall or insulation, we rigorously test the moisture content of the wood. We ensure the framing has thoroughly dried out, using commercial dehumidifiers and heaters if necessary, to prevent any future mold or structural issues.
